This is part custom and part superstition depending upon whom you ask. According to legend if a student touches the seal, he or she will not graduate on time or at all with variations of failing a test, course, or some other academic project. To “reverse the curse," one must step on the seal again and within 30 seconds run to the Recreation Center and rub the boot of the Pirate Statue located in front of the building.
